The change in schedule due to the Coronavirus shut down, sent me from 65 hours a week of work, to 25. Needless to say, I had some free time on my hands. So lets review how much I was able to accomplish and how I “crushed” my week.
Personally, I knocked out 2 seasons of “Turn, Washingtons Spies”, which is done quite well, and worth a watch to say the least. I was shocked, laughed, and thoroughly enjoyed the accuracy of the scenes and intensity of the characters. Give it a looksee if you like historical fiction.
I also used my extra time in a super hero way to eat. You might call it Super Eating. Bags of popcorn, peanut butter cups, and brownies. None were beyond reproach for me and my mouth. I probably ate an extra 5,000 calories. It wasn’t necessarily stress eating, I just enjoyed it. Its what I like to do when watching the tube on the weekends.
Doing this once or twice on a Saturday and Sunday is great decompressing for me. I thoroughly enjoy it and take no guilt for it. But doing this seven nights a week, which I did, does bring me some self loathing. Probably because and I’m going to be fat and lazy if I continue to repeat the behavior. And there are better and more valuable things I could be doing with the extra time, to say the least.
So what do I do? Sit around and beat myself up for not being perfect and responding like Superman to the change of my schedule and stress of the Coronavirus?
No. I have a new week ahead of me. In fact, I have 40-60 years ahead of me. So, I say I love Dennis, he’s a pretty good guy. And I give myself a pass. No self loathing. No self deprecation. No wasting time in self pity. There is a world out there and it doesn’t need people beating themselves up. It needs people who can contribute in any small way. People who have a positive energy and want to add value to the situation.
So, if you spent time last week not being your best, its okay. These are stressful and uncertain times, and a less than perfect response is okay. Shake it off. Week one is behind us, and week two is ahead of us. Lets refocus and set our minds to the next 7 days. Think of a way you can be of value. And go do it.
